In group classes, you might find yourself in a room with as many as 20 people and only one instructor, depending on the class size for that Pilates studio. That being said, the instructor will have to keep tabs on everyone in the room, and while you have opportunities to ask questions and make sure you’re doing something correctly, you won’t have the individualized attention you would have in a private session.
In a private session, all of the instructor’s attention will be focused on you. He or she will be able to tell you if your shoulders are too far forward, or during a certain move your back isn’t flat enough. You will learn more about the way your body moves than ever before!
In group classes, it’s easier to slack off if your body gets tired or you’re not motivated enough. In private sessions, you have the full attention of the instructor, and slacking off just isn’t an option. Instructors want you to reach your full potential, therefore it’s important to keep moving and push through any soreness or exhaustion.
